Traffic light status (TLS) explained:
- Green: Routine prescribing within licensed indication
- Amber 1: specialist recommendation followed by GP initiation and continuation
- Amber 2: specialist or GP initiation in line with local guideline after 1st line failure followed by GP continuation
- Amber 3: specialist initiation and stabilisation followed by GP continuation
- Amber SCG: specialist initiation and stabilisation followed by GP continuation in line with an agreed shared care guideline
- Red: Hospital or specialist prescribing only

Mucolytic therapy

Consider in people with a chronic productive cough and continue use if symptoms improve.
- Do not routinely use to prevent exacerbations.
Acetylcysteine
- Nacsys® Effervescent Tablets 600mg
Carbocisteine
- Capsules 375mg
- Oral liquid 250mg/5mL
- Oral solution SF 750mg in 10ml; 15x10ml sachets
3.3.1 Cystic Fibrosis
Mannitol (Amber 3)
- Bronchitol® Inhalation powder, hard capsule (for use with disposable inhaler device), 40mg
- Use as per NICE TA266 Mannitol dry powder for inhalation for treating cystic fibrosis (November 2012)
