Traffic light status explained:

  • Green: Routine prescribing within licensed indication
  • Amber 1: specialist recommendation followed by GP initiation and continuation
  • Amber 2: specialist or GP initiation in line with local guideline after 1st line failure followed by GP continuation
  • Amber 3: specialist initiation and stabilisation followed by GP continuation
  • Amber SCG: specialist initiation and stabilisation followed by GP continuation in line with an agreed shared care guideline
  • Red: Hospital or specialist prescribing only

This is PHE's immunoglobulin handbook, providing guidance on administering immunoglobulin to prevent serious disease.

3. Ideal body weight should be used to calculate doses in obese patients

 

 

Normal Human Immunoglobulin for deep intramuscular use

  • 250mg vial

 

 

Normal Human Immunoglobulins for intravenous use

 

  • Intravenous solution for infusion 100mg/ml
  • 2.5g, 5g, 10g, 20g 

Notes:

  • Current brand of choice: Iqymune® solution for infusion (Privigen® is for existing patients only)

 

 

Hepatitis B Immunoglobulin 

  • 200 international units injection (for infant use)
  • 500 international units injection (for adults) 

Notes:

  • Pharmacy do not stock this product
  • Supplies are available from MKUH Blood Bank section within Pathology (Ext 85776)

 

Human Rabies Immunoglobulin (HRIG)

  • Available on Virology advice only. Contact Microbiology via switch board

 

Tetanus Immunoglobulin

  • 250 units sterile solution - Intramuscular injection

Notes:

  • Stock is held in Pharmacy and Accident & Emergency Department
  • Requires Microbiology approval

 

 

Varicella-Zoster Immunoglobulin  

  • Injection 250mg - intramuscular

Notes:

  • Pharmacy do not stock this product
  • Supplies are available from MKUH Blood Bank section within Pathology (Ext 85776)

 

Human Anti-D Immunoglobulin
